Appeal of a Wooden Conservatory
You only have to compare a brick, plastic and wooden structure and immediately you will notice that the only one which radiates character is the wooden building. All conservatories will add value and space to your property but only wood can give that natural finish which is so appealing. A properly built wooden conservatory design will enhance your home to the maximum adding style and character that no other material can achieve.
Wooden Conservatories Design Features

Hand carved designs can be incorporated into your design making your timber conservatory a unique sculpture that is a permanent part of your home. There are many options for including personal touches including panels, cornice’s and carved wood features. This flexibility in design makes wood a popular choice with peeople wanting elaborate Victorian conservatories. Of course these are optional with many natural finishes looking superb with just a plain smooth finish and the availability of different coloured stains to give the finish to fit in with your house.
Wood Types Commonly Used in Timber Conservatories
Pine – This is the most common wood type as it is cheaper and easier to work with than other woods because this is what is called a softwood. It’s only drawback is that it is not as durable as other woods such as hardwoods but as long as you regularly paint it every couple of years it will last just as long. Negleting this can cause the life pine to be shortened.
Cedar – Very much like pine in the fact that it is a softwood and requires treatment to ensure it has a long life. Also popular with builders and DIY customers as it is cheap and easy to work with.
Oak – The type of Oak you want is called cured oak as this is the strongest and most durable form of oak. Cured oak is Oak wood that has dried naturally in the air for a year over all the seasons and will outlast any other form of wood without further treatment.

Green Issues
Using other natural woods that are not covered above is not a good idea as only the above woods are not in any danger from over foresting. Global warming is reduced by using wood as a building material as no manufacture of the raw element is required as it just grows naturally. Plus unlike man made plastic upvc conservatory materials wood is not difficult to dispose of.
